Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
