People have come together throughout the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-led assault on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations continued in Egypt over a resolution to the war in Gaza.

The assault resulted in in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken back to Gaza as captives. It was the single most lethal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are considered trustworthy by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our aggressive enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister stated on that day.

He also promised to "realize all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership postponed formal remembrance events until 16 October - after the end of the festive season - but gatherings still took place across the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israelis killed in the Hamas attack was conducted in the coastal city. Arranged by the families themselves, it was aired on Israeli broadcast stations.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was observed around the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas representatives met in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a second day of indirect talks to examine the conditions of the proposal.

A prominent delegate knowledgeable about the discussions said that an night meeting of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.

The official said the earlier meeting concluded without significant progress, because of differences over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not resume hostilities after the first phase of the deal.

He commented that the negotiations are "tough and have still not achieve any significant progress," but mentioned that intermediaries are striving to close the gaps between the both parties.

Critical Matters in Talks

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The exchange of the captives still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid provision
  • Future management of the region

Civilian Sentiment

In the city's public square previously, young Hagar - whose brother endured the incident on the outdoor event, where hundreds were killed and dozens more were captured by Hamas gunmen - told: "No location seems like home any longer and until each abducted person come back none of us will feel safe."

"Once we see everyone home returned, we can breathe once more. Then we can begin to recover," she added.

Outside the leader's home in Jerusalem, people congregated to show their support for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel states nearly fifty continue in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant stated: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement required for the abducted to come back home. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be secure."

Research now regularly indicate that approximately seventy percent of the population prefer the war to conclude in return for the release of the captives.

Gaza Situation

At the location of Nova festival, those paying respects gathered to honor the dead.

From the site, the noise of military attacks and shelling could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the severe Israeli shelling carried on.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were documented in the morning of that day in the western neighborhood, area and locality areas and in the east side area of the community, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwestern area.

"When the night arrives, the fear comes with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a mother, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli air strike last year, shared.

"We are afraid of the attacks. All the night we are resting together, clinging, especially my little child who puts his face on me all night."

"Constantly we monitor the reports to see developments. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the war will resume to us."

Health Situation

The healthcare center in Gaza City announced it had taken in the bodies of six people by the afternoon, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern city of Khan Younis said additional dead people had been transported. A person was killed by Israeli troops while seeking help to the southern area, medical staff stated.

The region's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
