Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period like this with results so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
