The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror That Blends Survival Horror with Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a girl containing several human souls within her must escape from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her exist four separate souls, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips show the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The core gameplay loop revolves around controlling whichever soul emerges at any given time. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have large flowers where their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since every entity can deceive or hide the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity standing could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
