The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."
Show History
The drama launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now being produced.
